Hamas condemns assassination of Rayiq Bisharat as Israeli war escalates

Hamas denounced the assassination of Palestinian resistance leader Rayiq Bisharat, calling it further proof of Israel’s “criminal mentality”.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Hamas Movement has condemned the assassination of Palestinian resistance figure Rayiq Bisharat, calling it further evidence of the Israeli occupation’s “criminal mentality” and ongoing war against the Palestinian people.

In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas asserted that Bisharat’s killing—alongside the rising death toll and violence in the occupied West Bank—demonstrates the brutal nature of the occupation, which seeks to erase Palestinian identity and presence.

Hamas mourned Bisharat, who was assassinated in Tamun town in Tubas, and reaffirmed that the Palestinian people and their resistance will continue fighting until the occupation is expelled from their land and holy sites.

The movement urged West Bank youth and resistance fighters to stand firm against Israeli aggression, crimes against prisoners, and attacks on sacred sites, calling for unity against the ongoing war targeting Palestinian existence.

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine also paid tribute to Bisharat, praising his sacrifices and leadership. The group described him as a key figure in the 1987 intifada and noted that he had survived an Israeli assassination attempt in 2002, which killed his wife and left him with amputated hands.

Islamic Jihad highlighted that Bisharat had spent over nine years in prison and led a 53-day hunger strike in 2022 to protest administrative detention. The group emphasized his unwavering dedication to his responsibilities.

The movement expressed confidence that Israel’s targeted assassinations of resistance leaders would not weaken the Palestinian people but instead inspire future generations to be stronger and more fearless.

Bisharat was assassinated, and his body was seized by Israel’s Yamam special forces following a raid in Tamun on Tuesday night.
